Heavens Soldiers

Tensions in divided Korea reach a high peak with North Korean soldiers being charged with delivering a nuclear bomb and South Korean troops determined to stop them and gain possession of the bomb. However, in the middle of the conflict Halley’s Comet appears in the sky – and this causes a “time rift” linking the present with other points in the comet’s 433-year cycle of close approaches to the Earth. The modern Korean men (and one woman) unintentionally and to their surprise find themselves Time traveling back from 2005 to 1572.

The soldiers on both two sides are in considerable confusion, unsure as to how to get home or where the nuke over which they had struggled has disappeared. Also, the 16th Century Korea in which they find themselves is imminently threatened by an invasion of the Jurchen tribes. The soldiers find themselves divided between the option of using their modern weaponry and thus possibly changing history, or trying to return to their own time without aiding the Korean defenders against the Jurchens.

Meanwhile, the soldiers encounter a local who seems at first little more than a common thief, or at best “a cunning, slightly eccentric young man” – but who does seem to be making some efforts to organize opposition to the Jurchen invaders… There follow some bloody sword battles, while a brilliant scientist seeks a way to travel home and the whereabouts of the controversial nuclear bomb remains in doubt – leaving the fate of North and South Korea, both past and present, hanging in the balance.

During the late Ming Dynasty, the Chinese imperial court is plagued by corruption as eunuchs usurp state power and the reigning emperor is incompetent. The Jinyi Wei (literally: Brocade-clad Guards) is the government's secret police, trained in clandestine combat since childhood, they are in charge of conducting missions to ensure peace and stability within the empire. They have the authority to prosecute anyone deemed as an enemy of the state and they devote their lives and lethal prowess to serving the emperor only. When the organisation was first founded, the Jinyi Wei took orders directly from the emperor, but now they are under the control of the eunuch faction. The chief eunuch Jia Jingzhong is plotting with an exiled noble, Prince Qing, to rebel against the emperor and seize power. Jia orders Qinglong, the Jinyi Wei chief, to kill the Imperial Councilor Zhao Shenyan and take Zhao's safebox, which supposedly contains a list of names of traitors.

However, Qinglong discovers later that he had been used, as the safebox contains the Imperial Seal, a symbol of the emperor's authority, and Jia wants to use it to legitimize Prince Qing's actions for convenience when the rebellion begins. Qinglong is betrayed by his fellow guards and becomes a fugitive when Jia denounces him as a traitor and issues an order for his arrest. Qinglong escapes and joins the Justice Escort Agency, where he strikes up a romantic relationship with Qiao Hua, the daughter of the agency's leader. Qinglong is determined to fulfill his loyalty to the emperor and continues to search for evidence of Prince Qing's rebellion plot and undermining Qing's plans. He is joined by the Heaven Eagles Gang, a group of bandits led by the Judge of the Sands. Standing in Qinglong's way are Jia Jingzhong's lackeys and his former Jinyi Wei fellows, as well as Prince Qing's goddaughter Tuotuo, a highly-skilled female pugilist.

Little Big soldier - RMVB Format

The film takes place during the Warring States Period of China where we see an old soldier (Jackie Chan) take a young General (Wang Lee Hom) captive. He hopes to present the General to his superiors in exchange for rewards such as cash and kind, and the ultimate prize, to never be fighting in a war again.

Of course, there are disagreements between the pair at first, what with the old soldier being on the Liang side and the General being on the Wei side. At the same time, they are also being pursued by Prince Wen (Yoo Seung-jun) who is the General's brother. Prince Wen has a score to settle with his big brother; he intends to gain control of the throne by wrestling it out of his brother's hands.
The film basically tells of the story between two runaways who have to be on the run for their survival, while also trying to reach Liang. On the way, they encounter adventures such as constantly dodging the enemy and running into all sorts of different characters while on the way to Liang. The two also end up as sort of friends.





In terms of character, Jackie Chan as usual gives his best. Though his action scenes have decreased, still, there's nothing better than watching Jackie kick butt. As for Lee Hom, this is his second Mandarin film after "Lust, Caution" and he gives a pretty good performance as the temperamental General. Korean American actor Yoo Seung-jun, who plays Prince Wen and is signed to Jackie's entertainment management company, is also convincing in his role as the power-hungry Prince.

Overall, while not one of Jackie Chan's best works, this film should definitely be given a try. Do so if you're a fan of both Jackie and Lee Hom, or just one of them. The film is pretty good and the ending is unpredictable, so you'll gain your money's worth after having watched this film.

Kung Fu Master 2010 DVDrip - mediafire link

The folks out at Lions Gate sent me off a copy of Kung Fu Master to review, and I was definitely looking forward to this as I’d seen a lot of great action movies–especially kung fu movies–come out of Lions Gate. They’d handled quite a bit of other martial arts fare–the MME series, War, and plenty of others–so watching them tackle one like Kung Fu Master left me fairly certain that Lions Gate would be on safe, steady footing.

Kung Fu Master follows Tan Zong, one of the greatest kung fu experts on the face of the Earth in the midst of what looks like feudal China. He’s just been offered a new job, as the drillmaster of the Grand Commandant. But since Tan Zong is a Buddhist, he’s not too interested in making ultrapowerful soldiers, so he intends to refuse the Grand Commandant’s offer. The Grand Commandant, meanwhile, isn’t the type to take no for an answer, and as such, he plans a warm welcome for Tan Zong. Thus, in order to refuse the Grand Commandant’s offer honorably, he’ll have to fight his way through a swarm of attackers to reach his goal and defeat a host of villainous kung fu masters to protect his people.
This movie takes excellent advantage of the greatest parts of the kung-fu action movie–the incredible fight scenes and masterful choreography. But where it lets down somewhat is in the plot. See, this movie is great as far as action goes–it’s a constant, almost endless, string of fight scenes, each bigger and more outlandish than the last. Tan Zong will take on concubines with knives, guys with harps, pit traps, spike traps (in one amazing scene he’ll tackle five guys with umbrellas), but what he won’t do a really great job of is advancing the plot. I really don’t know a whole lot behind the why of Tan Zong is chopping and kicking and smashing his way through a horde of enemies until at least a third of the way through the movie. That’s playing things just a bit too close to the vest for comfort.
So basically, how you feel about this is going to be largely dependent on your personal preferences in terms of what you want out of your movies. If you want a good story, you’re going to be disappointed here. But if you like a lot of fists and feet flying, then this is going to be a huge pile of joy for you.
There will even be a pile of unintentional laughs here, and loads of great opportunities to mock it mercilessly if you’re a fan of Mystery Science Theater fodder.
Thus, the Screenhead Ten Scale gives Kung Fu Master, a great dose of action and even a little comedy a seven out of ten. Sure, it’s a little low budget in places, and low class in others, and the story is pretty weak, but the overall experience will still be fun.
